Choosing a Gate Valve for Your System
Gate valves are built for full-open/full-closed isolation rather than flow throttling — using one for regular throttling duty accelerates wear on the gate and seat.
Standard Cast Steel Gate Valve
Designed to be fully open or fully closed for pipeline isolation. Confirm pressure rating, connection type (flanged or threaded) and size against your piping specification before ordering — a gate valve is not the right choice if your application needs regular flow throttling.
Construction Types Available
Flanged Connection
Bolted flange connection matching your pipeline's flange standard and size.
Threaded Connection
Threaded connection for smaller-bore piping systems.
Where Gate Valve Is Used
Packaging
Gate valves are supplied boxed or crated by quantity. Confirm size, pressure rating, connection type (flanged or threaded) and applicable standard before ordering.
Common Questions
Can a gate valve be used to throttle flow?
Gate valves are designed for full on/off isolation, not for regular throttling — using one to partially control flow accelerates wear on the gate and seat and can lead to leakage over time. For throttling duty, a globe or control valve is generally the more appropriate choice.
